Wines

Lately

Alta Sueños combines the spirit (and scale) of home winemaking with access to the minds and facilities of accomplished producers.

Born of restless enthusiasm in the harvest of the pandemic, the project quickly evolved into a small-lot, low intervention winemaking practice that’s somehow heading into its 4th vintage.

I’m in this to explore the furthest corners of California wine. I geek out on the old vines, the unsung varieties, untold stories, and the off-the-beaten-track terroir. Along the way, I’ve come to see wine less as a commodity than an intangible expression of culture: It teaches us history. It reconnects us to nature. It moves us to sing 1980s pop songs at the tops of our lungs in front of total strangers.

Alta Sueños means “fly dreams.” For me, the dreams are to keep on exploring, to work in a style honoring the wines and producers who’ve inspired me, and to create something worthy of good food, good music, and good company.

I make wine because I love wine.

There’s no other reason to go to the trouble.
