On most mornings I get to glimpse Corinne Cobabe engrossed in one of her works of collage.

Her studio for this practice also happens to be our living room, with her drawers of art books, vintage magazines, found objects and other ephemera strewn across the coffee table.

Heads-down with scissors in hand, she sometimes doesn’t notice that I’ve seen her. She calls this daily practice “play.” We both know it’s meditation.

Ordinarily, Corinne isn’t open to commissions, but for a partner’s passion project she was willing to make an exception.

And while I provided much of the source material—photos taken on trips through wine country or in the heart of “the City of Vines”—she’s the one who transformed them into something that far exceeds what my imagination could’ve conjured.

What’s collected here is a kind of sketchbook, the record of a progression that led to the final piece for the inaugural Alta Sueños label.

Thank you, Corinne. I’m nowhere without you.
